Laura Taylor, award-winning author, left a comment
on my FaceBook page this morning that said, “You’re turning your dreams into reality.”
I thought about that a minute and realized I was marking items off my bucket list rather quickly.
1.
Publish
a book—check
2.
Run a
half-marathon—check
3. Tour the
Napa Valley—scheduled for the end of May
4.
Run a
marathon—scheduled for September
Obviously, I’m not going to
sit on the Supreme Court or be President of the United States, but there’s
still time to be a NYT author!
Selecting an item from your bucket
to focus on is a scary endeavor and generally takes hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance.
Or, in the case of “tour the Napa Valley,” the love of a wonderful man!
The thought of running a
marathon makes my heart skip a beat, but that’s not any different from the fear
I had of the Run the Bluegrass Half-Marathon course.
Finishing The Last MacKlenna makes my heart skip a beat, too. It’s not the
writing that I’m afraid of, it’s the emotional turmoil it will generate in my
gut that keeps me from jumping in full throttle. Breast cancer and childhood trauma are not easy topics to write about. I’m on low speed right now,
but I’m on track to kick it into fourth and fifth gears in the next week or
two. If I intend to mark it off my
bucket list, I’ve got to suck it up and put in the work. By the end of the
year, I’d like to have everything checked off and a new list in the making.
So what’s on your bucket
list that you're ready to check off? To help energize you, here’s today’s running song. Hope it gets you up and moving.
Happy writing and running,
Kathy
P.S. Next week I'll have more "What I've Learned Today" posts, so check back!
